STILLWATER – Julie and Nick Annotto have been living the snowbird life for 25 years, ever since they bought their home along Saratoga Lake in 1996. Over the years, they’ve perfected a routine for preparing their home for vacancy in New York.
Julie Annotto, long an active member of the Saratoga Lake Association, said it is a common arrangement for her neighbors around the lake. They enjoy the summer in upstate New York, and then skedaddle for warmer climes when the weather turns cold. Unoccupied homes, however, are at risk for burglars and damage from the elements. Both homeowners and renters should take steps to avoid problems while they are away.
