A new retirement community on the way in McKinney will create more than 400 residences built in a park-like setting overlooking an 11-acre lake.
Touchmark at Emerald Lake will be built at 350 S. Hardin Blvd., south of Virginia Parkway. The 81-acre development site is west of U.S. Highway 75.
Dallas-based architect Three designed the seniors community. It’s a project of Oregon-based Touchmark Communities.
The first phase of the McKinney development will include 149 independent living apartment homes, six duplex casitas, 84 assisted living and 32 memory care residences. The homes will be ready in 2023.
“Opening our first community in Texas presents an opportunity to build the largest and most exciting project in our 40-year history,” Touchmark CEO Marcus Breuer said in a statement. “Drawing on the remarkable scenery and numerous nearby attractions, we’re excited to build a retirement setting that is unlike anything we’ve developed previously.”
Andres Construction will be the project general contractor. Along with architect Three, the interior design firm is StudioSIX5 and landscape design will be by Talley Associates.
The community will include lakeside and hilltop outdoor activity spaces and several indoor and outdoor dining venues. Future construction is planned to add a health and fitness center with pool, spa, salon and dining facilities, as well as more homes.
“At Three, our mission is to create a design that lifts the human spirit,” principal Rocky Berg said in a statement. “For our clients like Touchmark, that means delivering architecture that creates an emotional connection with the resident and their families, leveraging connections to nature and the vibrant community of McKinney.”
Based in Beaverton, Ore., since 1980, developer Touchmark has built 13 communities in nine states and Canada.
